LA: Chapter 5 Challenge:

Midway through this chapter (page 43 P2), we read the following:

“Stronger than any burning in his arms and belly, more haunting than the
darkness that surrounded him, was the realization that he was alone, totally
alone with himself. And it scared him.”

Task: explain the meaning of this quote. Why does being along with himself scare him more than anything?

Criteria: remember to include…a sentence that introduces the topic; Find and explain the deeper meaning of the statement; Justify your ideas with thorough evidence from the story and examples; finish with a closing sentence that “wraps things up.”

The givens – CONVENTIONS: grammar, punctuation correct spelling & capitals.

MATHS: review the practice questions we did today, subtracting integers using + and – tiles.

b) The temperature is 5ºC, the drops 10ºC. What is the final temperature?

c) The population of a city was 124 000, then it dropped by 4000 people. What was the population then?

a) Write the addition equation modelled by the number line.

b) Describe a situation that the number line could represent.

LA: Chp 5 powerwrite is due Wednesday. You will get time in class tomorrow to write this. Remember, there will be a Chapter 6 quiz tomorrow.

Friday, January 9th/26

MATHS: finish Lesson 2.3 “Adding integers using a number line,” pg 62, #2 a-d, #4, #5 and #8. Due Monday.

 

CAMP READ: Be ready to read all afternoon on Monday (Jan 12th)! Bring plenty of reading material, blankets/pillows, an afternoon snack and wear your pj’s. 😀

 

Thursday, January 8th

MATHS: There’s no specific homework today, but you can review what we explored in class today. We explored how to add integers using a number line. Remember, when drawing a number line, you need to keep the space equal between integers! 

CAMP READ: on Monday, Dec 12th, we are going to drop everything and read for the afternoon. Our entire school is participating! Bring enough reading material to read for 2 hours! Bring blankets and pillows to get cozy and comfy. Wear your pjs. 

Wednesday, Jan 7th/26

MATHS: check your work over on Lesson 2.2 “Adding Integers” using tiles, pg 58/59, #1, 3, 4 (a,b,c), 6, 8. Did you use tiles correctly to show adding? Be ready to mark Thursday! Remember: you can access the textbook right here on the blog. Click on “Math Makes Sense 7” and open the PDF copy there.

Welcome back to school everyone! Happy 2026!

MATHS: please finish Lesson 2.1 Representing Integers, pg 54/55, #1, 2, 6 and 7. Due Tuesday.

   

ADST: review the 3 persuasion techniques we learned about today with a parent/guardian at home. Think about the ad you will be producing for your car…what persuasive technique would you like to use?

CAMP READ: Next Monday afternoon, January 12th, the entire school will be stopping everything to READ! Bring lots of reading material: books, graphic novels, magazines, ebooks, audio books (yes, bring earpods too).  You can wear Pjs and bring blankets to get comfy and cosy. Be ready to read for the whole afternoon!
